Yes, we're in need of a few more models for our little troupe and applications are now being accepted. They are due April 22nd and the audition process starts May 4th.

We're looking for outgoing, fun, creative, girl next door types who want to promote our "feel good in your own skin" philosophy.

And no, you don't have to be 6 foot tall and a size 0. We're looking for women of all shapes, sizes, colors, ethnic backgrounds and personal styles. Tattoos and piercings? Plus size? Over the age of 30? Under 30? Dreadlocks? Prefer to look like a dude? Or maybe you consider yourself "Just average." None of that matters to us! We WANT REAL women, with REAL bodies, and REAL life experiences.

And what do Eye Candy Girl models get???

Why is this so common in the acting and fashion industry??? What kind of example is this setting for women? For little girls?? This is so sad and pathetic. Makes me sick.

Recently I experienced a bit of negativity from a SMALL handful of local ladies who seem to think that taking photos of beautiful women is... well... not all that good for Nelsonville. Apparently, me wanting to sell dresses, corsets and hold bellydancing lessons here is a bit to much for them. At first I was shocked - because everything I do is about empowerment and creating love for ones self. And then I was angered, and resigned from the committees I was helping out on. After all, why help them out???

Now a bit of time has passed and my feelings have changed dramatically. Their negativity is funny. It humors me.

Delish hasn't even been built and it's already controversial. Most of theses women haven't seen a bellydancing class and yet they think it's dirty. And I really don't know how many of these (ahem!) prudish women have even seen my photographs... but come on! Since when are corsets and 50's dresses a bad thing? Since when is taking gorgeous photos of women such a negative act? Why am I so wrong ... just for wanting to give women a space to come, shop, talk, and engage in activities that make them feel beautiful??

I love this town and plan to be here for as long as I possibly can. Their opinions really don't matter... not in the long run, anyways. Most successful businesses have faced some type of obstacle. And if everyone lived their life just to please others, then no one would really be living their own lives. Right??

My new attitude is: If you can't join them, beat them!

And now that I know I'm supposed to be controversial, it actually frees me. I don't have to walk around trying to please these certain people - cause there's no pleasing them. Instead, I'm going to do what I want to do.

There's something devilishly freeing about being the resident bad girl.

And even them... and they're definitely pretty thin, are considered curvy and more "full" than a typical model.

A few of the items I recently purchased. Can't guarantee they'll always be in stock, but these are the types of things I'll be carrying in the lingerie part, as well as a few of the pin-up type dresses I'll carry. Of course, I will carry LOTS more items... shoes, coats, more dresses, costumes, panties, etc... but I wanted to start building my inventory and nabbing up items that I was particularly fond of.

If there's something out there that YOU think we should carry, please let us know. So I've been giving the gallery space a whole lotta thought, and I think a space this big would be better suited for something like, well... a lingerie/ shoe/ clothing/ sexy costume/jewelry/ pinup/ rockabilly/ cabaret/ burlesque - ish boutique.

And I wanna call it DELISH !!

Pink pretty walls, lots of photos and clothes and little pretties to look at. Dance lessons in the evening - such as burlesque, hulahoop, bellydancing and flirty aerobics. Ladies Nights out parties with food and drink, music and no men to oogle everyone. Show women's artwork, and of course, sell delicious chocolates and other candies.

Plus, the photography studio would be in the back. We could bring in hair and makeup folks (hold lots of helpful workshops) and even do fun extra activities - like auctioning off some hot guys or hiring them to serve us at a swanky brunch.

hmmmm..... the possibilities are endless!!!

Here's a few photos from our first (monthly) Ladies Night. About 50 women showed up, toured the gallery and photography studio, met some of the Eye Candy Girls, signed up for my Marilyn & Me project, met with local businesswomen, signed up for burlesque classes, made photo appointments, and gathered info on Eye Candy model auditions. It was a GREAT night!

Our next Ladies Night will be Febuary 25th at 7pm. We'll be focusing on women's sensuality... which includes a professional bellydance performance AND sign up for her lesson's!!!

14th Annual Bridal Showcase

970 WATH and WXTQ-Power 105 in conjunction with the Athens Community Center present the 14th annual Bridal Show on Sunday February 28 at the Athens Community Center. The show is free to the public and will take place from 12:00 Noon to 4:00 pm.

Bridal Showcase 2010 is Southeast Ohio’s premier wedding expo featuring a variety of exhibits. Regional and local businesses will display their products and services to those who may be getting married within the next few years, renewing their vows, taking a second honeymoon, or assisting a friend or family member with wedding plans.

In addition to a wide variety of vendor displays, the event will feature a bridal fashion show presented by Andreas Bridal Shop from Jackson, Ohio. The show will begin at 2:30 pm and will include bridal, bridesmaid, and special occasion gowns. All guests may register to win hundreds of dollars worth of door prizes.

Brittany Murphy Looked Emaciated at Last Public Appearance

Two weeks before her shocking Dec. 20 death, Brittany Murphy appeared skinnier than ever.

Wearing a short black dress by designer pal Tiffany Saidnia, the actress looked emaciated as she walked the red carpet Dec. 3 for the opening of Tt Collection's Pop-Up shop in Los Angeles. One online blogger wrote that her dress "hung to her skin and bones frame."

Despite her disturbing appearance, Murphy appeared to be in good spirits. "I've been very blessed to have a really great loving husband," she told Access Hollywood, referring to director Simon Monjack, whom she wed in 2007. "I spend more time with my family than anyone else in the world."

She also revealed her goal for 2010. "As far as having a New Year's resolution, I'd love to have a child next year," she said. "But that's kind of a large one!"

She also turned heads Dec. 1 at the L.A. premiere of indie film Across the Hall, which she shot in 2008.

Her red carpet appearances came shortly after Murphy stopped working on a film in Puerto Rico.

Internet reports claimed that she was fired, but her rep denied the rumors, saying, "She was not nor has she ever been fired from any job big or small ... [Due] to creative differences Ms. Murphy and the production mutually parted ways."

Wow! This one makes me shake my head in disbelief.

I thought she looked hot before they went in and perfected her!

No these photos are years apart... The right image is the real Kelly and the left is the computerized version of her.

Took off a few years and a few pounds, and yet for her age, she looks amazing!

To the left is what she looks like on the runway. Gorgeous, shapley, and very much a woman. Now look at the image on the right. Yes, this is a real image. It really was published. What the heck??? How could Ralph Lauren promote such an image? It looks horrible! Sickly! Disgusting!

Boobs, hips, hair, face, skin tone and thighs were all retouched... and yet she looked beautiful BEFORE they altered her photo.

Facts About Eating Disorders

What is an eating disorder?

Eating disorders occur when a person’s attitude about food, weight and body size lead to very rigid eating and exercise habits that jeopardize one’s health, happiness and safety. Eating disorders may begin as a way to lose a few pounds, but these behaviors can quickly get out of control, become obsessions and may even turn into an eating disorder.

Eating disorders are not due to failure of will or behavior; rather, they are real, treatable medical illnesses in which certain maladaptive patterns of eating take on a life of their own. The main types of eating disorders are anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa. A third type, binge-eating disorder, has been suggested but has not yet been approved as a formal psychiatric diagnosis.

Many people with eating disorders experience depression, anxiety, substance abuse, and childhood sexual abuse, and may be at risk for osteoporosis and heart problems. Death rates for eating disorders are among the highest for any mental illness.

Eating disorders are on the rise and more than 90 percent of those who have them are women. No one knows exactly what causes eating disorders. However, all socioeconomic, ethnic and cultural groups are at risk.

What are some factors that can contribute to eating disorders?

Psychological Factors:

low self-esteem
feelings of lack of control in life
depression, anxiety, anger or loneliness
strong need to please others
Interpersonal Factors:

troubled family and personal relationships
difficulty expressing emotions or feeling
history of being teased about size or weight
history of physical or sexual abuse
Social Factors:

cultural pressures that glorify “thinness” and the perfect body
cultural norm valuing people by their appearance
Other Factors:

possible biochemical or biological reasons
family history of eating disorders
Anorexia Nervosa
Anorexia is essentially self-starvation, a refusal to maintain a minimum normal body weight. People with eating disorders also may engage in self-induced vomiting and abuse of laxatives, diuretics or exercise in order to control their weight. People with this disorder see themselves as overweight even though they are dangerously thin. The condition may lead them to become emaciated and, in severe cases, anorexia can be life-threatening.

Some signs and symptoms of anorexia include:

weight loss, sometimes severe
intense fear of gaining weight
distorted body image
electrolyte imbalance
Health consequences of anorexia nervosa:

irregular heart rhythms and heart failure
osteoporosis
risk of suicide
menstrual changes or absence of menstruation
Bulimia Nervosa
People suffering with bulimia follow a routine of secretive, uncontrolled eating followed by inappropriate ways of trying to rid the body of food before it is digested. This includes vomiting and /or misuse of laxatives, diet pills, water pills, excessive exercise or fasting. Because many people with bulimia “binge and purge” in secret and maintain normal or above the normal body weight, they can often hide the disorder from others.

Some signs and symptoms of bulimia include:

preoccupation with food, body weight and shape
feeling unable to control eating behavior
self-induced vomiting, using laxatives or other medications, fasting or excessive exercise
difficulty controlling impulsive behavior
Health consequences of bulimia nervosa:

electrolyte imbalance
damage of heart muscle
inflammation of esophagus
erosion of tooth enamel
damage to salivary glands
Binge-eating disorder

People with binge-eating disorder experience frequent episodes of out-of-control eating, with the same binge-eating symptoms as those with bulimia. The main difference is that individuals with binge-eating disorder do not purge their bodies of excess calories. Therefore, many with the disorder are overweight for their age and height. Feelings of self-disgust and shame associated with this illness can lead to binging again, creating a cycle of binge eating.

Some signs and symptoms of binge-eating include:

frequent episodes of eating large quantities of food in short periods of time
feeling out of control over eating behavior
feeling ashamed or disgusted by the behavior
eating when not hungry and in secret
Health consequences of binge eating disorder:

high blood pressure
high cholesterol
heart disease
diabetes
gallbladder disease
What is the treatment for eating disorders?

Eating disorders are most successfully treated when diagnosed early. The longer abnormal eating behaviors persist, the more difficult they are to overcome. In some cases, long-term treatment and hospitalization is required. Presently, there is no universally accepted standard treatment for eating disorders. Ideally, an integrated approach to treatment involves medical care, psychosocial interventions, and nutritional counseling. Certain selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) have been shown to be helpful for weight maintenance and for resolving mood and anxiety symptoms associated with anorexia. People with eating disorders often do not recognize or admit that they are ill. As a result, they may strongly resist getting and staying in treatment. Family members and other trusted individuals may be helpful in ensuring that the person with an eating disorder receives needed care and rehabilitation.

What is body image?

The idealization of thinness has caused distorted body image and unrealistic measures of beauty and success. Cultural and media influences such as TV, magazines and movies reinforce the belief that women should be more concerned with their appearance than with their own ideas or achievements. Research has shown that many normal weight and even underweight girls are dissatisfied with their body and are choosing inappropriate behaviors to control their appetite and food intake.

Tips to help you look thinner and healthier in photos

Posture
Your posture is the main key to look thinner no only in photos, but also as you walk through your daily life. Practice pulling your shoulders back and keeping your head held high. No need to walk around with a book on your head. This is a total distraction and quite unnatural.

Conceal
If you are holding an object in the photo, hold the object over the area you wish to conceal. For example, accept awards near your belly to look thinner when the photo is snapped. Purses and jackets can be held in front of the body quite naturally to appear thinner.

Pose
The way you pose in front of the camera is important. To look thinner, put one foot in front, pointing your toe to the camera. In this position, place all your weight on your back foot. This allows you to look thinner by centering your weight away from the camera.

Twist
Slightly twist your hips away from the camera so that your hips are not square to the photographer. If your hips are at an angle, this helps to shrink your width and you will appear thinner.

Chin Lift
To avoid the double chin effect, push your chin forward toward the camera. This tip helps to elongate your neck, smoothing out the double chin and you'll look thinner.

Other tips
* Keep your shoulders back and chest up
* Place your hand on your hip
* Head up to minimize double chin. Stretch it forward.
* Don't press your arms to the sides.
* Stand sideways to the camera with chest up
* Cross legs while sitting
* Watch what is cloest to the camera - because that's what appears the larges.
* Look away from the camera and before the click, turn towards lens with a slight smile.
* Never snap photos from below. It adds 20-50 pounds to the 10 pounds automatically added by the camera. The photographer needs to shoot from sightly above, to smooth out the neck and make the face and body appear slimmer.
* Tans and fake tans make you look healthier and thinner.
* Wear black and white
* Wear an entire outfit in just 1 color
* Avoid wearing large amounts of white

The Marilyn Monroe Project

So, I've decided to take 84 women between the ages of 18 and 84 and turn them all into Marilyn Monroe. This is to prove a point that ALL women are beautiful.. no matter their age, race, style, or size.

I also hope that this project will show that the typical Hollywood size 2 is unralistic and unhealthy, and the woman who's been called the most beautiful woman in the world would be considered a plus size actress by today's standards.

This project will be intense. It'll keep me busy and will probably take a group effort to pull off. But if I can get it done by mid May of next year, I can turn it into a huge exhibit by her 84th birthday on June 1st. What better tribute to Marilyn Monroe than this??

Here are some photos of Marilyn I found online. I'm going to ask the 84 women to choose a photo and together we'll recreate it.
